Comic-con, of course, is the annual gathering of a mash of popular culture icons; actors, creators, writers, directors and everything else you can name involved in titles anywhere from Star Wars to The Walking Dead to Spiderman.
Comic-con is a fantastic time for anyone who has an interest in pop-culture iconography to get out there and spend some time mingling with people who have shared interests. I’d love to stress the celebrity guests, the panels, the people who’ll be doing autographs and talking with fans, but it’s honestly going to be a lot less fun than talking with regular people who do the things you do and love it all just as much.
While there might be Q&A sessions with people like Seth Gilliam (who played the priest, Gabriel, on The Walking Dead) or John Hurley from Seinfeld or the amazingly attractive Tara Reid (representing American Pie among a plethora of other titles), it’s nowhere near as nice as running into someone with the same costume as you.
Because in the end, even if you get an autograph from Robert Englund (Freddy, from Nightmare on Elm Street) or Sting (of professional wrestling fame) and even if you get a good, long look and a bunch of pictures at the original 1966 Batmobile from the original Batman television series with Adam West, it’d be nowhere near as interesting as seeing it, and whispering the same line from that series as someone else standing next to you.
The point of these gatherings is to gather. It’s a shared appreciation, a moment where you can demonstrably see beyond any shadow of a doubt that really, everyone likes this stuff.
Where better to find some really great moments than by entering the area which weeds out the weak? We come, then, to the Horror Fest section!
What better way to spend a few days in June than by wandering around in the horror section of the Niagara Falls Comic-con, searching for connections to be made? Just to keep you interested in the meantime, though, here are some of the notable actors and events which will be happening in that particular subsection of the Niagara Falls Comic-Con.
Along with the original Freddy Krueger, the man who played Jason Voorhees in Freddy vs. Jason will be present. Caleb McLaughlin, from the Netflix special Stranger Things, will be at the Niagara Falls Comic-Con on all three days, and the kid from The Shining (Danny Lloyd) will also be present.
On-hand will be the normal array of horror-themed décor and product, including RevenantFX, which creates lawn and window ornaments based on popular horror thematic, and Precious Mutations, which “recycle” non-horror and horror toys together to create new decorations—so, imagine an Alien face hugger mixed into a diorama with an Elmo doll, and you’ve got the right idea in general.
Through all this incredible stuff, though, you should keep your eye open for people who are representing your own interests and likes. The point of a Comic-Con, like any other type of gathering, is to put together a bunch of people who all have common ground and see what happens.
